Minneriya National Park
Minneriya is known for seasonal elephant gatherings. The plains are flat and dry. Water sources attract wildlife. Other animals exist but are secondary to elephants. Access is mostly by organized tours or vehicles.
Sinharaja Rainforest
Sinharaja is a dense rainforest with tall trees and thick vegetation. Streams and minor rivers run through the forest. Wildlife is present but often hidden. Human presence is minimal. The terrain is difficult and slow to traverse.
Yala National Park
Yala National Park has open grasslands with predators like leopards and elephants. Birds and small animals are scattered. Wildlife is active but can be difficult to locate. Terrain is mostly flat with some scrub and forest. Visitors must stay in vehicles to safely view animals.
Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe National Park is dominated by large elephant herds. The ground is mostly dry with some waterholes. Other animals are present but limited. The environment is dusty and hot. Human access is controlled and limited to safaris.
Wilpattu National Park
Wilpattu consists of dry forests and lakes. Leopards and crocodiles exist but are rarely easy to see. The park is large and mostly empty. Navigation requires vehicles. The ecosystem is minimal in human interference.
